The Harbour View Plaza is a landmark building in Darwin, NT, originally constructed in the mid 1980's and is located at the gateway to the Darwin CBD. The building offers tenancies for office spaces, ranging from small spaces up to complete floors and currently accommodates a mixture of NT Government, Federal Government and Corporate tenants.
The building has recently gone through a major face lift that has allowed for the building and infrastructure services to be brought in line with current energy efficiency requirements and leading edge technology. At the forefront for the upgrade works was the replacement of all the internal fluorescent lighting to new LED luminaires over the 7 floors of commercial office space.
The SAL Commercial team in collaboration with local electrical consultants Ashburner Francis, worked towards a target of providing a modern, efficient and reliable LED luminaire, and one that was manufactured in Australia by an Australian owned and operated company where warranty and support were readily available. One of the key challenges for this project was meeting the demanding construction program.
One of the critical and governing standards for the new luminaires was the need for IC-4 compliance to meet with current requirements of the NT Government.
The electrical consultant selected SAL Commercial as the preferred manufacturer due to their ongoing commitment to the lighting industry in Australia, high product specification and output, operational reliability, and support provided to many recent NT projects.
The installation of the luminaires was completed by a local and well established electrical contractor. One of the main challenges with this project was the extensive liaison with the current tenants to ensure there were minimal disruptions to their operation, and guaranteed assurance that luminaires would be in operation during the change-over.
This collaboration between consulting engineers Ashburner Fancis and SAL Commercial ensured that the project outcome was guaranteed to be a success.
The commissioning of the project was overseen by both the electrical consultant and the team at SAL Commercial.
